Manchester United are racing against time to make sure that David De Gea remains their player for the next season. Reportedly, the Spaniard has been linked with a move that might land him at Santiago Bernabeu. However, Manchester United are trying their level best to secure his services for the forthcoming season.
The Red Devils are already looking for options who can be able to effectively replace the Spaniard between the sticks for them, in case the shot-stopper leaves for Madrid in the summer. Among a number of names that has been on their radar recently, one is that of the Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson.
Ederson is currently playing for Benfica in the Portuguese Super Liga and is regarded as one of the best goalkeeping prospects for the future. The 23-year-old shot-stopper has been instrumental throughout this season for his club Benfica, helping them to become champions for two consecutive years.
Ederson has made 27 appearances for his side in the Portuguese Super Liga this season and has shown some brilliant performances for them between the sticks. The fact that he has conceded only 16 goals this season is an evidence of the fact. His brilliant abilities have attracted a number of big-name clubs to bag him for the next season including the likes of arch rivals Manchester United and Manchester City.
The current coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is also under a tremendous amount of pressure owing to his decision to let go of the former number 1 of his team, Joe Hart, on loan to Italian club Torino and bringing in Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo from Barcelona to replace him in the City goal. The move did not work out as per plan, with Bravo not being able to settle down at the Etihad Stadium as of now and forcing the Spaniard to look for a better option for the next season. In the current situation, Ederson has come up as a viable option for the Citizens’ coach.
Manchester United, reportedly, have also been linked with the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak in order to replace David de Gea, in case the Spaniard leaves Old Trafford during the next transfer window. However, Atletico Madrid is in no mood to let him go in the next season to any other club.
As per the new rotation policy adopted by the Red Devils coach Jose Mourinho, David de Gea has been playing in the Premier League matches, whereas the Argentine goalkeeper Sergio Romero is playing in the Europa League, and will be starring in the final.
