Ronald Koeman’s Everton have been decent this season and though they might lose a couple of players at the end of the season, the manager has some big plans for the upcoming campaign. They will be looking to improve on a few positions in the summer and the goalkeeper’s position is one Koeman will be looking at with interest.
Reports today suggest that the Everton manager is looking at Juventus star Neto. The Brazil international moved to Turin from Fiorentina in 2015 and has ever since struggled to make it into the first team, thanks to Gianluigi Buffon in goal. So it is understood that he is up for sale this summer and Everton are one of many clubs interested in his signature.
The Toffees were linked with a move for the 27-year old in January but a move did not materialise and it is understood that the Toffees boss is ready to do what it takes to get Neto to the Goodison Park this summer.
A shot-stopper of the highest order, Neto is a specialist in denying opposition from close range and has always produced top notch saves in his time in Italy. He is not particularly a ball playing goalkeeper but is more than comfortable in possession of the ball and will probably walk into the first team at Everton.
Koeman has used the likes of Maarten Stekelenburg, who only joined the club last summer and Joel Robles, who has been at the club for three years. The Spanish U23 international Robles has not convinced Koeman enough to keep him as the first choice while Stekelenburg may not be at the club at the start of the next campaign.
Neto, if moves to Everton, is expected to be the first choice over Joel Robles, with Stekelenburg, 34, shown the exit door. At just 27, Neto is still reaching his prime as a footballer and is waiting to impress at the highest stage, making Everton a perfect destination.
The Toffees are not a high profile club in England but with Koeman at the helm, they have every chance to establish themselves as giants in Europe. Neto will only be a start of a huge revolution at the Goodison Park.
With the World Cup coming up next year, most players will be putting out their best performances and this might help the club improve their overall progress this summer. But do you think Neto is the right man for Everton?
