Charlie Taylor has been under intense speculation of late with various clubs including Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion interested to lure him under their ranks. Without any shadow of a doubt, Taylor has emerged as one of the hottest properties in English football of late and it goes without saying that Leeds United’s failure to secure a play-off spot has a lot to do with the apparent interests for the 23-year-old.
The Whites find themselves in a sea of troubles, including the uncertainty of future of their manager Garry Monk, expiry of the loan deals of some of their key players in the 2016-17 campaign and failure to get themselves promoted. Taylor’s reluctance to stay at the Elland Road, however, is one of the most important issues to be solved and the West Yorkshire based club have taken a stride towards doing the needful. If the latest reports are to be believed, Leeds United have offered a new two-year deal to the left-back tempt him to stay at his current club.
Taylor has impressed for the Peacocks in the English second division in the season which just concluded for them, as he made 29 appearances for them and registered 1.4 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 2.6 clearances and 0.2 blocks per game on an average, apart from making 3 assists. He was a seemingly important cog in the tactical nous of Monk in the transient Leeds United side which fared pretty well (though a top-six finish would have been a cherry on top of the cake). Having emerged through the youth ranks of the Whites, Taylor was quick is establishing his stature on the left-back slot owing to his explosive runs up the pitch, the knack to stretch the opposition’s defence and ejecting dangerous deliveries as well.
Further, the Englishman is someone who has shown immense maturity in timing his runs perfectly, never refrains from making tackles and intercepts the ball every time the situation demands, has the technical edge and maintains a fine balance between his defensive and attacking endeavours and no wonder why he is deemed as one of the best modern day full backs. Leeds United would be keen to regroup themselves and aim for another shot at earning a promotion spot back to the Premier League next season without slipping during the business end and to construct the same, they would need to keep players like Taylor at any cost in their armoury.
