According to various reports, Manchester United are considering tabling a bid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti. Buying a midfielder in this summer has been on the wish list of Jose Mourino and the Manchester United hierarchy are ready to pursue his interest. Time and again, Verratti has been linked with a number of clubs including Chelsea and a bidding war could be expected in the upcoming days.
The Italian midfielder has gone on to become one of the best playmakers among the current lot. The absence of a proper central midfielder has been the missing link in the United side and although they acquired the services of Paul Pogba in the summer in a record transfer from Juventus, a need of a proper central midfielder has always been felt. Pogba’s role in the midfield is debatable and we have seen that United’s midfield has struggled without him. Ander Herrera has been given more of a defensive role due to his good snatching ability and Mourinho evidently needs a top class midfielder to bring the best out of Pogba.
Verratti loves to operate from the deep and is blessed with an excellent passing ability. His game reading is impeccable and he has been the vital cog in the PSG midfield right now. But the current situation is a bit different. The Italian international is tired of PSG’s failure and wants assurance to make sure the club digs deep in the transfer market for exciting talents. He is ready to pledge his future if the above conditions are met but there could be a twist in the tale.
United will be facing Ajax in the Europa League final and their fate is depending on how they perform in the final. Winning the Europa League would give them a direct entry to the Champions League and that could be a huge moment for the Red Devils as it would be easy for them lure any top players from various clubs.
PSG haven’t enjoyed a good season but Verratti remained their best player on the pitch. The midfielder has thrived in this season after having an injury-ravaged 2015/16 season. PSG lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the last summer as the Swede decided to ply his trade for Manchester United and losing another player would be a step down for the French club. The French side would go to any extent to tie him to a new contract and it remains to be seen how the situation goes.
