Chelsea are reportedly tracking Atalanta right back Andrea Conti. Antonio Conte is known to be biased to his native players and the move could be a result of that. Conte has earned rave reviews after guiding Chelsea to the Premier League title this season and owner Roman Abramovich would hand him a hefty transfer kitty to build his squad for the next season.
Conte had his representatives in Italy particularly to watch the development of Conti and he is very impressed on how his career has been shaped so far. The right back is known for his marauding runs forward and has netted on eight occasions in the Serie A as well as has racked up four assists in this season. The 23-year-old came through the ranks of Atalanta and burst into the scene in 2013. After a couple of loan stints at various clubs, he has established himself as a key figure in the Atalanta starting lineup in this season. After a breakthrough season, Atalanta are on their way to the Europe next term.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also believed to have garnered interest in the player and might make a formal offer in the upcoming days. Klopp has a very versatile Nathaniel Clyne in his ranks but there are no serious backup options at his disposal. The Reds will be competing in four competitions net season and the need of proper right back might tempt the German to go for the Italian. Conti’s performance has made it sure that he is certain to be one of the players who has a heavy chance to leave the club.
Conti’s versatility to cope up in a number of positions is huge as he can also be a notable option in the right wingback position. Victor Moses has been a revelation in that position but apart from Moses, Conte doesn’t really have any other suitable options which sums up the current situation. AC Milan and Inter Milan are also courting a move for the young defender. These two Italians clubs have been boosted by the recent acquisition by the Chinese owners and they are ready to invest a significant amount of money in bolstering their squads.
However, the player himself has played down the rumours and insisted that he is very happy at the club. “My future? It’s still too early to talk about it.
“Transfer rumours make me happy, playing for a big club is every child’s dream, but I’m happy in [the city of] Bergamo and it’d be difficult for me to leave.”
