Newcastle United are interested in roping in Malaga forward Sandro Ramirez. The Magpies are currently chalking out plans for their new season up ahead and have been linked with a number of players. They had a thumping season in the Championship but Benitez needs to address a few things in the side this summer.
Newcastle will be aiming for a spot in the top ten places next season. A busy summer is expected for the Toons as Benitez will go deep in the transfer market to choose the perfect player. Sandro is a very renowned name in La Liga as the La Masia product has created havoc in the Spanish top tier with his performances.
The 21-year-old ex Catalans hit man joined Malaga on a free transfer last summer and since then has been a rage for the Spanish club. He has netted 14 goals this season and has contributed with five assists.
His £5.1m buyout clause in the contract has made things more interesting as Everton are also trying to hijack the player and take him to the Goodison Park. The Toffees need to make things sure if Romelu Lukaku leaves the club and Sandro’s price tag seems to be doing the job for them.
Newcastle currently have a number of frontmen available in their ranks including Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Dwight Gayle. Amongst them, Gayle has been mostly used up front and Perez has acted as the secondary striker. Despite having these players Benitez’ s search for a new number nine seems to be an obvious thing as he is not happy with his forwards’ performances.
Due to lack of goals, they had to wait till the last match to secure the title. Mitrovic did fill in well but his conversion rate is very poor. The Serbian international has only found the net four times in the 25 game he has played in the Championship. Gayle has also picked up injuries very often this season and his absence has almost cost the Magpies the Championship.
Benitez needs to strike the perfect balance between his midfield and attack and for that he has to hire a typical goal poacher and Sandro fits the bill perfectly. The 21-year-old can also be deployed in the wider areas leaving Benitez with a number of options. A perfect all-around forward, Sandro is also very dangerous from set piece situations and has the knack of shooting from distance. A number of goals have come from long ranges and should the Toons sign him, he could be a potential threat upfront.
