Reports are coming that Turkish club Trabzonspor are tracking Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini as they have been searching a midfielder for a long time. United recently triggered a clause in his contract which allowed them to extend his stay at the club till 2018 but now there is a possibility of him quitting if he finds the current situation going against him.
The Belgian was one of David Moyes’ marquee signing after he was appointed the manager of Manchester United to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson. Moyes had to be sacked after his dismal performance in the Red Devils dugout but Fellaini remained at the Old Trafford.
At the Goodison Park, we used to see a different Fellaini who intercepts attacks, making tackles and launching scathing attacks. Each time United had faced Everton Fellaini used to be the throng in a bed of roses as the Merseyside club often gave troubles to the Red Devils.
In this season he has racked up 45 appearances under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. United fans had hoped Mourinho would have thrown him out of the team as he is not the kind of player the Portuguese generally likes but to everyone’s surprise he came out to be a favorite of the manager.
The 29-year-old was sent off in the Manchester derby after he had some heated moments with Sergio Aguero. When everyone thought it would be the end of Fellaini’s season, he came out with something which could be the most important moment for United this season. He headed home from a Marcus Rashford cross to send United to the Europa League final in the Europa League semifinal.
But he also was at the helm of jeopardizing United’s three points on many occasions. As an example, we can go back to December when he was brought in against Everton to hold back United’s lead. But instead of doing some, within a few moments of his introduction, he conceded a penalty in the dying moments of the game as Everton robbed United of a couple of points.
The thing is Fellaini was never a United kind of player. Moyes bought him because every manager has a certain loyalty to some players when he joins a new club and Moyes did the same. He was more of a panic buy as United already had many players in that position. He might be the hero if United do win the Europa League this time but if Mourinho is looking for a long term prospect he needs to get rid of him as soon as possible.
