London outfit Arsenal have found themselves a way back into the race for the top-4 but have to win their remaining games to have a shot at Champions League football next season. But Arsene Wenger does not seem fazed as he is already planning for life next season.
He has been looking at some of the best players in Europe for a move this summer and but one player who he wants in his squad from England is Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez. According to latest reports, Craig Shakespeare, the current manager at the King Power, wants to keep the player at the club for another season but Wenger is now ready to make a move for him at the end of the season.
Having been named the PFA player of the year for the 2015-16 season when Leicester City went on to win the title, Mahrez has failed to replicate his form this season. He has been a mainstay at the club on the right-wing but has scored just 10 goals, picking up seven assists to show for in all competitions this season.
With no European football at the King Power next season, the Algerian winger might be tempted to make a switch this summer. Known for his dribbling and finishing abilities, Mahrez is a genuine winger who loves to take on his man. He is adept at crossing the ball into dangerous areas but is more comfortable cutting inside from the left to make space for his teammates and also to try and find the back of the net.
He has a smart head on his shoulders and makes the right pass more often than not and his experience in the Premier League will surely come in handy if he decides to move to the Emirates this summer. Though playing as a part of the four-man midfield at Leicester City, Mahrez is expected to play in a more attacking role, which might help him back to his best.
Wenger might lose Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez and has not been happy with the performances of first choice winger Theo Walcott. Alex Iwobi remains the only other option in this position and Mahrez looks a necessity for the Gunners for the next campaign.
They will be in either of the two European competitions next season and will need all the depth they can accumulate and even if they hold on to Sanchez, Mahrez is going to be a sensational addition to the squad. He may be out of form but he has already proven himself and could be the man to lift Arsenal to the top.
