The weekend action of the English Premier League saw somewhat mixed results as it cemented the relegated teams on the other hand and brought the race for the top four closer to more tensed finish. Here are the 3 main talking points-
Crystal Palace sends Hull City packing into Championship
Hull City’s untimely slip-up against relegated Sunderland last game cost them dearly as the Tigers were completely outplayed by a determined Crystal Palace last weekend. Marco Silva’s side were further weakened as they had to play without Lazar Markovic and their attack contained very little edge.
With the Eagles getting on the scoresheet quite early in the game, Hull had to make a comeback instantly and they were caught off guard not once but four times. The Tigers are now in the 18th position with 34 points, four points adrift of Swansea City and with one game in hand. The South Wales club didn’t do the mistake against Sunderland like Hull, as they rode on a comfortable two goal win away from home at the Stadium of Light.
Manchester United whitewashed at White Hart Lane’s last ever game
It was yet another nightmarish game for the Red Devils as they were completely outplayed yet again, this time by Tottenham Hotspur at their backyard. After the defeat at the Emirates Stadium last game, it was their North-London arch rival, who took the cudgels. United have been poor away from home against the top six sides this season, and especially against the London sides.
And now with Crystal Palace left to play (another London team), United can only hope they don’t falter further. That was also the last game at Tottenham’s historic White Hart Lane. The Lilywhites are transferring to Wembley Stadium next which will be their home next season, while White Hart Lane gets a total remodelling. United are dangerously banking on the Europa League final result now, which if gone wrong could cause pandemonium at Old Trafford.
Arsenal break yet another long-standing hoodoo
It seems Arsene Wenger is bettering his poor records in one of the poorest seasons of his stay. The Frenchman won against Jose Mourinho two weeks back for the first time in his managerial career in the Premier League, followed by breaking their poor away record at St. James’ Park last week, when Arsenal defeated Southampton for the first time since 2003.
They overcame yet another hoodoo at Bet365 Stadium last Saturday. They had won just once in eight away fixtures against the Potters and they finished them off with style this time. Arsenal are now just three points behind Manchester City and four points behind Liverpool. Alexis Sanchez became the first person to have 20 plus goals and 10 plus assists in a single season after Thierry Henry, giving Arsenal enough reasons to reconsider his huge wage demand.
