Manchester City are undoubtedly having a dismal campaign in this year’s Premier League. They might finish in the top four, but are being closely followed by arch-rivals Arsenal and Manchester United who are waiting to make most of their every mistake that they commit now, right at the business end of the current season.
Manchester City had brought in Pep Guardiola as their manager last summer, looking for a change in fortune by clinching the major silverwares that have been eagerly awaited by their fans. However, the Spaniard did not at all have a good season by his standards and has been under pressure to offload some of his players going into the new season.
The Manchester City coach should be disappointed with the following players as they failed to perform as per expected in their Premier League campaign this season-
Claudio Bravo-
The Chilean goalkeeper’s arrival to Manchester City was one of the most controversial chapters of this season. Pep Guardiola went on to hand the number one position of his team to Claudio Bravo whom he brought in from Barcelona, depriving Joe Hart, Manchester City’s regular goalkeeper so far. The English goalkeeper was reduced to the reserve bench during the start of the season and later on was sent out on loan to the Italian side Torino. However, the Chilean shot-stopper was not able to impress at all between the sticks throughout the season, conceding 26 goals so far in the season. Pep Guardiola had to take a lot of sticks for his decision to change the goalkeeper and might look to offload Bravo during the next transfer window.
Gael Clichy-
Pep Guardiola has not at all been happy with his performance and is looking to replace him with someone younger and agiler in the left back position. Aleksandar Kolarov had started a few games in place of the French defender but his injury has led Guardiola to re-plan things regarding the aforementioned position. Clichy is out of contract after this season and there is every possibility that the 31-year-old full-back might be shown the door at the end of the current season.
Yaya Toure-
One of the best players of the previous season for City, the Ivory Coast midfielder saw a change of fortune as he went into a stand-off with the club and the coach during mid-season. Of late though, he has been back to the lineup and has performed well. However, Pep Guardiola is evidently not happy with Toure and might axe him at the end of the season.
