In what could be termed as an ambitious move, Tottenham Hotspur are one of the many clubs that are looking to sign Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa. Spurs have qualified for the Champions League for the second season running and are expected to spend big this summer to add some quality to the squad at the club and Costa is as good an option as any.
Born and brought up in Brazil, Costa started his youth football with Novo Hamburgo before moving on to Gremio. He joined Shakhtar Donetsk as a 20-year old and spent five years at the club, making 142 senior appearances scoring 29 goals.
His performances earned him a spot in the squad at the Allianz Arena in 2015 but he has not been able to cement a place in the first team and is now looking for an exit to find regular game time next season.
Known for his exceptional pace and uncanny ability to go past defenders, Costa is a genuine winger who loves to take on players in dangerous areas. He has a gem of a left-foot that allows him to ping pinpoint passes and crosses and is a player who knows his way to goal as well.
He is comfortable playing on the right-wing but is also adept at playing on the other wing if needed. He is a decent passer with exemplary vision but his biggest strengths are his abilities to dribble, cross and hold the ball up in the final third.
The likes of Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery have been the first choice for Carlo Ancelotti this season and he is looking to add further to his options in the summer, pushing Costa further down the pecking order. And it is now revealed that Ancelotti is ready to offload him for the right suitor this summer.
He has seven goals and nine assists to his name in 33 outings, most of which came from the bench, and is attracting interests from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Pochettino has used a high-octane system that allows his front line to wander around and create havoc. This is something Costa can do even better. His pace and ability to fend off defenders will allow Spurs to create more chances than they did this season and this will see Costa walk into the first team at the club.
Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen have done well but the likes of Eric Lamela and Moussa Sissoko have not done enough to warrant a place in the first team next season and at just £30m, Douglas Costa is a must-buy for the Spurs. However, it will be interesting to see if they can fend off interest from the other English clubs this summer.
