There are only three games left in the current campaign and these games could decide the outcome of Watford’s ongoing season. The Hornets travel to Goodison Park to face Everton in a hope to give an uplift to their terribly erratic season so far. Walter Mazzarri’s side can still achieve a spot inside the top half of the table and while looking at the current position the idea of being relegated alongside is seemingly possible as far as points are concerned.
The Hornets are currently sitting in the 15th place with 40 points, two adrift of 10th placed Southampton. They are also not very far from Hull City who are reeling in the 18th place. So keeping everything in mind Mazzarri’s side need to ensure a win in the next match to keep their Premier League status intact. Usually, 40 points are the benchmark for a smooth sailing in the English top tier but things have gone absurd in the last few weeks so there is the slimmest chance that they could be dragged into the drop zone.
Predicted 3-5-2 Watford Lineup Against Everton
Defence
Heurelho Gomes has conceded 10 games in the last five matches. With only three games left he needs to sit tight to counter the difficulties that come towards him. The 36-year-old Watford number one has had a more than average season and will be looking forward to giving their supporter something to cheer for.
Mazzarri has adopted a three-man defence for most of the time and he will most likely continue with his preferred 3-5-2 formation. Miguel Britos was nursing an injury so he had to deploy Christian Kabasele in the defence. With Britos yet to get fit the gaffer is expected to rotate the same defence. Adrian Mariappa and Sebastian Prodl will have the responsibility to hold the Toffees attackers from scoring.
Midfield
Tom Cleverly will be at the anchor position and will try to cut away the supply line of the Toffees. Cleverley has played a huge role after making a permanent move from Everton and continues to grow under the stewardship of Mazzarri.
The five-man midfield formula has been useful for Mazzari’s side in outnumbering the opponents in the middle of the pitch. Etienne Capoue and Abdoulaye Doucoure will be the other two central midfielders who will be in the charge of the midfield.
Nordin Amrabat and Daryl Janmaat will be the two wingbacks who will try to bring some depth to the attack and defence.
Attack
Troy Deeney will be upfront alongside M’Baye Niang
