Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva is one of the many rumoured players linked with Manchester City this season. With a view to strengthing their midfield, the Citizens are looking to bring in the 22-year old Portuguese from the French Ligue 1 in the next transfer window.
Bernardo Silva is currently with the French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco and has been a very crucial figure in their midfield for quite a long time. He has been playing a significant role in making his side the current leaders on the points table and has shown his quality and class so far this season.
Bernardo Silva came to Monaco from the Portuguese side Benfica. He got his first break in the Segunda Liga with Benfica B and went on to make 38 appearances for them in same, scoring seven goals. Despite his brilliant performance with the Benfica B-side, Silva failed to get regular starts with the Benfica senior side and was eventually loaned to the French Ligue 1 club in 2014.
He immediately made an impact with Monaco and scored nine goals for AS Monaco and provided three assists to help the French side qualify for the Champions League. The Portuguese midfielder was presented with a permanent deal in 2015 owing to his gallant show in the colours of the French side.
This season also, the Portuguese midfielder has been instrumental in his performances for his club and has helped them reach the Semi final of the UEFA Champions League this year. In 54 appearances for Monaco, he has scored 10 goals and has laid off 12 assists for his teammates to score goals. His gallant performance has attracted a number of clubs, including both of the arch rivals, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Bernardo Silva is known for his ability with the left foot. He has a free flowing ability to move and is equipped with solid dribbling skills. Silva’s playing style is reminiscent of his namesake in the Manchester City side, the Spanish star midfielder David Silva.
The Portuguese midfielder’s skills have been long recognised by the Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho. However, Manchester City has also entered the race to bag him for the next season, with their coach Pep Guardiola being well aware of the capabilities of Bernardo Silva. It is now to be seen whether Silva gets the nod from AS Monaco to leave the club in the next season or continues to play a major role in their victories next term as well.
