Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are not too far away from lifting the Premier League title this season and the manager has some big plans for his side in the next season. The first team at the Stamford Bridge is pretty strong but there is little in terms of depth at the club currently. So Conte has been busy, looking at some of the best players to add to his squad in the summer transfer window.
One such name that is constantly linked with a move to the club is Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata. According to reports today, Morata has asked his agent to secure a move to Chelsea at the end of the season.
Also a target for Chelsea at the start of the season, Morata has been in superb form for Real Madrid this season but has not been able to cement a place in the first team under Zinedine Zidane this season.
He has 20 goals and six assists to his name in all competitions this season and is fed up with the lack of playing time at the club. And with Zidane ready to spend on star players yet against this summer, Morata has no option but to look elsewhere. And it is understood that he has decided that Chelsea is his best destination.
Standing as one of the most versatile players in Spain, Morata has it all. Dribbling, shooting, passing and holding on to the ball are all his strengths, which will make him a perfect fit for a Premier League club. He can act as a false-9 when needed and is more than capable of playing in the hole behind the striker. He can also play on the wings and Conte will surely be attracted to this versatility.
The likes of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa are linked with an exit this summer but it is hard to see Conte let the duo leave this summer. He may yet have to let either one go and Morata can fill in either of the positions in the squad.
Pedro and Willian are the options for the final position in the front three for the club and if Chelsea spends on Morata, he is expected to take that place, making him a regular starter, even if both Costa and Hazard stay at the club.
Morata is frustrated with the lack of game time but his returns this season show that he has it in him to compete at the highest level. At just 24, he is a player on the rise and Conte will definitely turn him into more of a goal scoring beast than he already is. Surely, if Morata joins Chelsea, there will be a few defenders who will already start having nightmares.
