The Premier League has almost reached its end for another year. Having entered the business end of it, all the clubs are trying to improve their position and are playing with a real sense of purpose in the current situation. While clubs like Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are fighting to keep their place in the top four, Chelsea are currently firmly placed at the top of the ladder and are playing cautiously to avoid any unwanted goof-up right now that can harm their present position.
This weekend, being the 36th matchweek of the season, saw some brilliant performances from a number of players of different clubs. Three such outstanding players who made a point this weekend are detailed in the following lines-
Granit Xhaka-
After a rather disappointing season for the Gunners, Granit Xhaka showed that he has finally started settling down in the Premier League. The player from Switzerland, with his brilliant runs down the field and movements to dazzle the Red Devils defence, was good enough to bring some life to what was a rather depressing matchup for both sets of fans. His strike in the 54th minute to put his team in the lead was absolutely awe-inspiring, with the ball travelling a long 30 meters through the air after hitting the back of the Red Devils midfielder Ander Herrera and dipping at the right moment to find the back of the net, avoiding the outstretched arm of the Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.
David Silva-
Reportedly, the Spaniard was not fit to play in their clash against Crystal Palace this weekend and it was a pleasant surprise for Manchester City fans as well as their coach. Pep Guardiola deployed the midfielder into a Central role and his move paid off completely. Silva was brilliant with his runs, his twists and turns and his mesmerising skills to bamboozle the Palace defence, thus being instrumental in their victory to strengthen their place as a potential contender in the Champions League next season.
Manuel Lanzini-
A big blow was dealt to Tottenham’s hopes of closing the gap with current League Leaders Chelsea when they lost their matchup against the rather subdued side of West Ham United. It was a special performance from their midfielder Manuel Lanzini, who also scored the decisive goal to hand the Hammers a long cherished win in the matchup. His brilliant runs and eye-widening skills with the ball were the highlights of the match, and the performance has been hailed as one of the best in a long time by any Hammers player.
