Liverpool has been having one of their best seasons in recent times in the Premier League and are eyeing Champions League football in the next season. However, there are a few make-shift players that their present German coach Jurgen Klopp has to do with, which might be a detriment when they face the big European sides in the next season.
The Reds are currently sitting at the third position on the Premier League table, and with one leg almost in next year’s Champions League, are looking to bring in specialists for the positions that have been a headache for Klopp in the current season. One such position that needs to be fulfilled is that of the left back, with English midfielder James Milner currently playing a stopgap role in the aforementioned position.
Reportedly, Liverpool’s original left back Alberto Moreno has been completely out of favour under the German manager and has so far failed in his trial to initiate a change of heart from Klopp. In fact, the Reds coach is eyeing a possible replacement for the Spaniard by bringing in Ryan Bertrand from Southampton for the next season.
There have been a number of ex-Southampton players who are at present playing for the Liverpool side, including Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne. If the deal goes through, Bertrand can become another member of this unique line-up and can play a big role in stabilising the Liverpool backline.
Though James Milner has done a fairly good job in the left back position for the Reds in the recent times, Jurgen Klopp is undoubtedly in dire need of a permanent solution in the position and the England international can be the answer to his woes for the next season. His playing style, darting runs down the left-hand side and accurate passes into the attacking third along with a tendency to protect the backline can come in handy for the Reds.
Reportedly, current Premier League leaders Chelsea are also eyeing the Southampton ace to be brought into the side for the next season. Their present coach, the Italian mastermind Antonio Conte is not satisfied with Marcos Alonso alone and wants depth in that position.
Bertrand was a Chelsea player till 2014, but the lack of first team place made the 27-year-old defender leave the club to join the Saints on loan, with the move made permanent a year later by the South Coast club. Since then, Bertrand has featured as an integral part of their line-up.
