With his current side Sunderland having been relegated from the Premier League for the next season, England striker Jermaine Defoe might be ending his journey with them and move on in search of a much suitable option, preferably a club from the Premier League. The striker has scored 14 goals in the current season for Sunderland, which was not enough to save them from getting relegated.
Sunderland’s present coach, David Moyes, has also admitted that the 34-year-old striker will be on the go as soon as the current season ends. A number of clubs being interested in making him a part of their line-up for the next season, Bournemouth looks to be the frontrunner for securing the services of the England international for the next season.
Bournemouth has been in good form of late and is currently placed in a comfortable position in the Premier League table. Having secured another season of top flight football, the Cherries are in search of a prolific scorer who can give an attacking edge to the side. In the current situation, Jermaine Defoe is looked upon to be the perfect option in front of Bournemouth.
Jermaine Defoe will definitely look for first team exposure in every match, and the Cherries, with their two men upfront system, can give him that option. The Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe is confident of the fact that the presence of Jermaine Defoe in their attacking third can make a huge difference to the team.
The Sunderland striker has also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Bournemouth early in his career. He has a good relation with the club’s management and should look for a second stint with the Premier League club. This is going to further boost the chances of Bournemouth to acquire the services of the veteran England striker for the forthcoming season.
As per sources, the England international will go out of Sunderland as a free agent owing to a contract clause with his current club. Jermaine Defoe has always been playing in the Premier League and will look to continue his career in top-flight football only, subject to the agreement of a Premier League club willing to take him in their side for the next season.
Reportedly, apart from Bournemouth, Crystal Palace is also looking interested in securing the services of the striker for the next season. Their current manager, Sam Allardyce has been a former coach of Sunderland and Defoe has a good experience of playing under his coaching.
