As a football fan, one must have felt sorry for the dramatic collapse of Leeds United in the business end of the season in English football’s second division. From a side which loitered aimlessly in the Championship last season, Garry Monk gave his consent to take the club forward despite the infamous name the West Yorkshire based club had garnered in sacking their managers without giving them adequate time to settle in. Monk did succeed more often than not but has failed to take the club over the line to earn a playoff spot.
With his contract confining him to the Elland Road expiring in the summer, it is still unclear whether the former Swansea City manager would be handed an extension. Moreover, some of the players, who have excelled under his command, have been already placed in the wish-list of various English clubs. The summer transfer window would be a huge one for the Whites to not only bring promising names but to keep their main men in their ranks and thus, the club would have to start jotting their to-do list. In a scenario like this, one of the major talking points for them would be about the future of Hadi Sacko.
Signed on loan from the Portuguese club, Sporting CP, Sacko has collected 37 appearances under Monk so far this campaign, bagging 2 goals and 3 assists in the process. Further, he has registered a decent pass accuracy of 80.2% and 0.7 key passes per game on an average as well. However, it is intriguing to underline that despite starting strongly for the Peacocks, the 23-year-old has become a fringe player of late owing to the sporadic run of form and has had injury problems too.
Sacko aimed to continue his development with a move to Leeds United, and the results haven’t completely been in their favour. The former French U20 international is a winger who thrives on pace and has the ability to blast past defenders with relative ease. However, his frailties exposes more often than not whilst not being able to convert his chances. When on song, he resembled himself as a destroyer of the opposition defences but then, there has been inconsistency and inability at times to make his presence felt.
Frankly speaking, he has the requisite potential but it his inability to keep hitting the right chords which is denting his pursuits. He might not have stagnated ever since putting on the Leeds United shirt but at the same time, he hasn’t produced a series of spectacular outings as well. Monk is due to take his troops to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic in their final game of the campaign and maybe, just maybe, the jury is out until the final game to make a precise report card of Sacko.
