Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta might consider a move back to his homeland to join the Spanish giants Barcelona in the next season. The Spanish left-back has been one of the major factors for the London club to have a great season in the Premier League, currently placed on the top of the table with 81 points so far.
Barcelona, who are also on the top of the table in the Spanish La Liga, have been going through a number of problems in their defensive line-up. A world class full back is the need of the hour for the Catalan giants as they are looking to avoid the repetition of the same mistakes from the current season in the forthcoming one.
Reportedly, Barcelona have been looking to offload their current left Jordi Alba, who has been out of favour under current manager Luis Enrique. The Spaniard has only played 19 matches as a first choice left back this season and might be replaced by Azpilicueta if the defender agrees to come to Nou Camp in the next season.
The Catalan giants have also been linked with the Spanish fullback, Hector Bellerin from Arsenal. Reportedly, Barcelona are on their way to making an initial bid for the Gunners defender and get him in the side for the next season as a permanent solution for their defensive woes.
However, the Spaniard has signed a new six-year deal with the North London club, which has triggered speculations of the full back staying back at the Emirates Stadium for some more time to come. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger also looks in no mood to let go of his prized possession in the coming season.
In the current situation, Azpilicueta looks to be the best option that Barcelona have as an option. The Spaniard has been instrumental in the left back position before for his current club Chelsea and has also helped them in reaching the FA Cup final as well. The Blues will face their arch rivals Arsenal in the final, which will be held at the Wembley Stadium.
Current Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has also preferred the diligent fullback as the best option to have on his hands and has chosen him to play a regular role in his starting lineup most of the time throughout the season. It goes without saying that the Italian mastermind will find it hard to compose his team if the Spaniard leaves Stamford Bridge in the next season.
