From what has transpired so far for Rangers in the domestic season, it could be perceived that they are considerably lagging behind their local adversaries, Celtic, and have a humongous task of reconstruction process ahead of them before they start going toe-to-toe against the Celts once again.
Pedro Caixinha is getting acclimatised with Scottish football and should be pardoned for his two losses against Brendan Rodgers’ side in the Old Firm derbies owing to the fact that his regime is still an infant one.
However, he would have to face the animosity in a much better manner next season to bring jovial scenes back to the Ibrox Stadium. The summer transfer window would lend them an excellent pedestal to make shrewd moves and bolster their ranks. For Rangers, one of the primary areas of concern has been the apparent lack of goals from their attackers.
When a 37-year-old veteran in the shape of Kenny Miller is leading the goal-scoring charts with merely 10 goals in the Scottish Premiership out of a total of merely 49 goals, it goes without saying that they need to get their offensive tactical nous right in the next campaign. One of the players they could possibly target is Kyle Lafferty.
The former Rangers striker was merely a fringe player for Norwich City in the Championship, having garnered just 115 minutes on the pitch for Norwich City in the ongoing season and has recently been released by the Canaries. Despite being a decent goal getter, more often than not, in his endeavours across the continent, he wasn’t really given ample amount of opportunities by Norwich City.
Tall, well built and a player with truckloads of experience, he used to be a household name when he was with the Teddy Bears and a move to the Ibrox Stadium might actually help him to reclaim his former self. He holds the ball well in the final third, contributes defensively, has the requisite pace and has perennially been a serial threat to the opponents defence during the set-pieces.
Besides, he reads the game well and his ability to cut in and test the goalkeeper when he is on song makes him a player worth having in the squad. The 29-year-old has expressed his thoughts of returning to Glasgow and ply his trade for the Light Blues, which should actually urge the former Al Gharafa manager to make a move for him. It would be absurd to imagine him as a serial starter for Rangers, but he could certainly offer himself as a fine commodity as a substitute and could garner adequate competition for a place in the starting line-up if scenarios pan out in his way.
