Manchester City is reportedly looking to hand their Spanish right winger Jesus Navas a new contract for the coming season. The Spaniard has been deployed as a right back by his compatriot and current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for the last few matches in place of a proper fullback and has played brilliantly to earn his place back in the team.
The Spaniard was almost out of favour under Guardiola but has been showing glimpses of his brilliance down the right side of the field. In fact, Guardiola has started with Navas in the right back position in six out of his last seven outings.
With regular right backs Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta speculated to leave during the next transfer window, Navas might be looked upon as a good choice in the right back position by the Spanish coach for the next season.
Navas has been playing as a right winger throughout his career, and he was brought into the Manchester City side from Sevilla with a view to continuing his good run in the aforementioned position only. However, with him fitting into the new role of late, it might take a huge load off the shoulders of Guardiola to find a back-up for the right back position, with City looking to sign Kyle Walker as the first choice right back from Tottenham in the next season.
Reportedly, Sevilla has been showing renewed interest in the right winger to get him back into their line-up for the next season. However, with Manchester City looking to offer the Spaniard a new contract, Navas might look to continue his journey with the former Premier League champions for some more time.
Reportedly, Navas will have to remain on the bench for most of the season in case Manchester City looks to bring in Kyle Walker from Tottenham in the next season.
The English right-back has been out of favour under the current Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino of late, who has been going in with Kevin Trippier as right back in his starting lineup for the last few matches.
Navas has been an ideal right side player throughout his career. Apart from his darting runs down the sideline into the opposition box, the Spaniard is also known for his well-timed long-range shots on goal. He is also known for his exceptional dribbling to shake off the opposition players, along with his pinpoint passes in front of the opposition goal, creating opportunities for his teammates to score goals.
