Manchester United are facing huge competition from the Spanish Champions Real Madrid to keep hold of their current shot-stopper David De Gea. The Spanish goalkeeper has been continuously targeted by the Galacticos over the last couple of seasons and might find it hard to resist the lucrative offer from the Spanish champions this time around.
With a fair chance of the Spanish shot-stopper leaving Old Trafford this season, the Red Devils are reportedly looking to bring in an able enough goalkeeper as his replacement. Rumours are catching wind strongly that Kasper Schmeichel, the current Leicester City goalkeeper might be the one to replace De Gea in the Manchester United goal.
Kasper Schmeichel, who has enjoyed a great last season with the present Premier League champions Leicester City, has been having another fairly good season under the crossbars for the Foxes. He has also been selected in the PFA Team of the Year for the fourth time in a row.
Reportedly, both the teams from Manchester, City and United, are looking for a chance to bag the Danish goalkeeper from Leicester City for the next season. The 30-year old had started his professional career at Manchester City but had to leave the club very soon on loan spells at various Championship clubs before joining Leicester City in 2012.
It is being assumed the fact that Kasper’s father Peter Schmeichel being a club legend for the Red Devils during his career might lure the Danish shot-stopper to Old Trafford. However, having signed a new five-year long deal with the Foxes, it might be hard for both the Manchester Clubs to get Schmeichel out of the King Power stadium in the next season.
Schmeichel has been rock solid under the crossbar for Leicester City throughout the past few seasons. Apart from excellent ball-handing, the shot-stopper is equipped with exceptional ability to guess the incoming ball’s trajectory and make adjustments according to that to keep his team out of harm’s way.
Current Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea has been recently criticised for his alleged “laziness” under the crossbar by the Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho, who wants more commitment from the Spanish goalkeeper. It is being rumoured that the comments from the Red Devils boss has infuriated the Spanish shot stopper and he is finding a way back home to join Los Blancos in the next season.
If the deal happens, it will make the way clearer for the Danish goalkeeper to come and join Manchester United for the next season. However, Leicester are not expected to give up their prized possession without a fight.
