Real Madrid have been chasing David De Gea since eternity, it seems. The Spaniard has quite Interestingly turned out to be a desirable target for them now, rather than a necessity. Los Blancos have never missed his services as such, honestly, winning the La Liga title as well as the Champions League while in his pursuit, leaving one to wonder just why are they hell bent on his signature.
However, according to reports, Real are finally close on landing their dream man as a deal is being talked over with Manchester United getting the talismanic James Rodriguez in return. The Columbian has lost his place in United’s first team despite giving top-drawer displays whenever called into action. It seems like Real manager Zinedine Zidane doesn’t see him in his grand scheme of things anymore.
Real are in extreme need of a safer and younger pair of hands under the bar, as the team goes through a transition period in the next two seasons. The current goalie, Keylor Navas, is already 30 and though still has a good four more years at his peak, Real don’t see him as a first choice anymore. De Gea has had a good campaign so far, quite unlike Manchester United, as he has conceded just 25 goals in 33 appearances.
While this would mean United letting go one of their highly-prized assets, the Red Devils will definitely take a huge step forward with the South American playmaker. United have struggled hugely in front of goal this season with Mourinho’s men looking often out of ideas. With repeated injuries to Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney, creativity has taken a huge hit.
And Rodriguez should bring abundant of it with him. The 25-year-old made a big-money move to the Spanish giants back in 2014 after some out worldly performances in the World Cup, and he soon proved he was not a one season wonder. He has scored 34 times and assisted 41 times in 108 appearances for Real in three seasons. This season, though he could manage only 16 appearances in the league, he has managed six goals and six assists.
A centre-forward by nature, Rodriguez can play on either flank with equal deft. Whether it is a long-range shooting or passing, close finishing that requires trickery and finesse, or from free-kicks, he excels in all. Read label this star at £50million, while United are willing to give something in the region of £33m.
However, the inclusion of De Gea should perfectly facilitate the deal, who was once rumoured to be returning to Spaniard for a whopping £66 m.
