Marco Verratti, the defensive midfielder has been one of the best players in Europe throughout the current season. Playing for the French Champions Paris Saint-German, the Italian youngster has been an integral part of their line-up for the last few seasons.
With his brilliant tactics and an equally cool head, while fighting for the ball with opposition players, Verratti has shown all the qualities of becoming a great footballer in the coming days. His skills have made a number of clubs from all over Europe wanting him to be a part of their team, including the Spanish giants Barcelona.
Barcelona has been through a bit of a rough season, especially in their European campaign this year. With their present boss Luis Enrique leaving the club this summer, the Catalan side is looking to bring in reinforcements for the next season.
Barcelona had suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Verratti’s present club Paris Saint-German in their recent encounter in the UEFA Champions League. However, they came back from a 4-0 defeat at Parc des Princes, the home ground of Paris Saint-German to record a 6-1 win against the French side at Nou Camp in the pre-quarter final second leg.
Unfortunately, Barcelona was shown the door in the very next round by Italian champions Juventus, who defeated them by 3-0 over the two legs in the quarter-final of their Champions League encounter.
This has prompted Barcelona to bring in someone of Verratti’s quality to make their midfield, who can go deep down and act as a shield in front of the back four, evading waves of attack from the opposition players. Besides, with their midfield maestro Andres Iniesta in his mid 30’s, Verratti can be a perfect replacement for the veteran Spaniard in the Barcelona side.
Reportedly, when asked by Verratti’s teammate Blaise Matuidi about whom he sees as his immediate successor at the Catalan club, the Spanish midfielder said that he wants the 24-year old Italian substituting him at Nou Camp.
Apart from his pinpoint passing into the attacking third creating opportunities for his teammates to score goals, Marco Verratti is also known for his mesmerising dribbling skills. His shot blocking and tackling qualities make him a mainstay in the midfield for Paris Saint-German. He also has the knack of scoring crucial goals from time to time to keep his team in the lead.
Paris Saint German is reportedly unwilling to let go of their prized possession. However, the Catalan giants are looking to bag Verratti with a bid of something around £45 million for the next season.
