Victor Lindelof has been one of the best defenders in the recent times in Europe. His defensive excellence has earned him a number of admirers, one of them being the current Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho, who is looking to include the Swedish centre back into his line-up for the next season.
Manchester United have been in utter dismay throughout the current season as far as their defence is concerned. Mainstays like Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are not a permanent solution due to their inconsistent appearances, along with Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly who have found it difficult to cope with the ways of English football.
All the four are currently sidelined with injuries, and it now looks inevitable for the Red Devils to bring reinforcements into their team for the next season.
Victor Lindelof, currently playing for Portuguese side Benfica, has been in good form of late. Manchester United is aware of the £50 million price tag that Benfica has slammed on their prized possession, but are confident of making the cut to bring in the defender in the next season for a much lesser price.
Reportedly, Mourinho is growing frustrated with the English duo of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones in defence for his club. According to him, the two are keeping from committing themselves completely and playing a crucial role at the heart of Manchester United defence.
With his awesome tackling and ball controlling abilities, Lindelof can be a prized possession for any team in their defence. He is also very good in the air and has a natural ability to chip in with goals from set piece situations. His passes into the opposition half can lead to counter attacks and his long balls into the attacking third help to set up his teammates in front of the opposition goal.
Though Manchester United are looking for a cut in the prescribed price of the Swedish defender, the message from his current Portuguese club Benfica is loud and clear for any potential taker who wants to bid for Lindelof. They are just not willing to sell him for anything under £50 million.
It is also being rumoured that Manchester United are on their way to making a huge bid of £59 million for defensive ace Marquinhos from the French champions Paris Saint-German. So, it is to be seen whether Manchester United will look to spend more than £100 million on both the defenders or will look to go with either one of them.
