Everton’s home record has been eventful and they will be looking forward to making this record even better when they host Chelsea at the Goodison Park on Sunday. Everton have cemented the seventh spot so far and until something happens they are the favourites to grab a Europa League spot. The Toffees boasted of a good home record including eight back to back wins and another win could end their season on a high. Ronald Koeman’s side defeated the likes of Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion at their fortress and they can now sniff a victory over Chelsea if they play to their potential.
If the Toffees can notch up their ninth home win they will come closer to their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League which was registered in the 1986/87 season with 10 wins in a row.
Predicted 4-1-4-1 Everton Lineup Against Chelsea
Defence
Marten Stekelenburg registered a clean sheet in the last match but it is very unlikely that Koeman would risk him in this high voltage match which means we might see a return of Joel Robles in the starting lineup.
Since Funes Mori’s injury, Phil Jagielka has taken his place and the veteran defender has been successful to fill his void to some extent. Jagielka also has some goals mostly being the headers as he often surges forward at the time of set piece or dead ball situations.
Ashley Williams has been a rugged character in the Toffees defence and his anticipation and ability to make clean tackles would come good in this match.
Age seems to have taken a toll on Leighton Baines but the left back can still surprise his opponents with his marauding runs.
Simon Holgate has been regular after the horrific injury to Seamus Coleman.
Midfield
In Morgan Schneiderlin, Everton do have one of the bet holding midfielders in the Premier league. His availability before the four-man defence would ensure an extra shield of protection.
The pairing of Idrissa Gueye and Tom Davies is very fresh and they complement each other. While Davies is more attacking minded, Gueye is a bit defensive. This unique contrast has given a new shape to Everton’s midfield which reflects in their game.
Attack
Kevin Mirallas has certainly been one of the potential wingers in the Everton ranks and will try to combine with Romelu Lukaku from the left side.
Ross Barkley has been different player altogether but he often has been criticised for his inconsistency.
Lukaku will be the single hit man.
