Leicester City, the unlikely champions of England in the previous season, seem to have done just enough to stay in the top flight for another season and Craig Shakespeare, the current manager of the squad, is looking to add some bright talents to help them build on their campaign. This has seen him linked with a number of players from the domestic arena in England and one such player who is now given a trial at the King Power is Kidderminster Harriers FC star, Andre Brown.
The success story of one Jamie Vardy has given the Leicester City owners enough confidence on lower league players and are now looking at the 23-year old striker who is in terrific form for his side in the sixth tier of English football.
Born and brought up in Walsall, Brown started his youth career at Crewe Alexandra but was not able to impress the manager David Artell at the Gresty Road. He was released on a free a year ago and joined Aggborough Stadium at the start of the campaign and has been in terrific form in front of goal, scoring 14 goals for the National League Northside this season.
He was given a trial at the King Power, in the recent U23 side’s game at Reading on Monday night, but failed to score in their 2-2 draw. Brown played for City in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Northern Ireland under-23s where he scored twice and Shakespeare is now convinced that he is an option for his squad next season.
According to reports, the Leicester manager wants his scouts to keep a close eye on his progress till the end of the season and is hoping that he can be the next Jamie Vardy at the King Power.
Known for his strength and finishing abilities, Brown is a genuine English striker who knows what is required of him. At just 20, he is still learning the game and is waiting for an opportunity to play at the highest level to work on his skills. And a move to the King Power will establish this for the youngster.
The English star Vardy has found some form since the sacking of Claudio Ranieri but with not much to play for next season, he may well be heading out of the club at the end of the campaign. Islam Slimani and Shinji Okazaki have been in decent form this season but Leicester City wants to add some depth to their attack to allow them a shot at finishing in the top half of the table next season.
They have no incentives to offer next season and may not be able to lure top class talent from Europe. So players like Brown are what Leicester need next season and if they can integrate him into their squad, the Kidderminster striker could take the English league by storm in years to come.
