Chelsea are currently in a great position to lift the Premier League title but their manager Antonio Conte is already planning for the future. The Blues will be fighting in the Champions League next season and the manager is determined to add some star players to his squad for the challenges next season. AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar is one of many such many stars linked with a move to the club recently.
Though the French outfit are determined to keep Lemar at their club for another season, Chelsea are ready to break the bank for his signature this summer. Standing as one of the most versatile stars in League 1, Lemar has been in terrific form this season, scoring and assists seven goals each, in just 23 starts in the domestic league.
He has been integral to the plans of the manager at the Stade Louis II this season but a host of European clubs are ready to lure Lemar and his teammates out of the club this summer. So should Chelsea make a move for this star?
Capable of playing on either wing in an attacking or a midfield role, Lemar is a creative player whose biggest strength is his ability in dead ball situations. He is an excellent free-kick taker and Brazilian star Willian will be the only competition for him at Chelsea in set-piece duty. To add to it, Lemar is an excellent dribbler with exceptional control on the ball. His vision and ability to stay calm in pressure situations make him one of the most effective players in front of goal in Europe.
Though not too strong in the air, Lemar is more than capable of holding the ball up, an attribute that is a must for a Premier League player. He can switch play in an instance with his pin-point passing, even over a long range and is a player who will make Chelsea all the more exciting.
At just 21, he has more than 50 senior League 1 appearances and a couple of caps for the French national side and stands as one of the most exciting players in Europe at the moment. He will compete with the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro for a place in the first team at the Stamford Bridge and this healthy competition will surely allow the Blues to dominate all four competitions in the next campaign.
At his age, Lemar may not be able to feature in every game for Chelsea but he has the potential to grow into a superstar and playing under one of the best man-managers in Antonio Conte, he should be licking his lips for this move to the home of the Premier League title (if Chelsea do not slip up this season).
Lemar is wanted by the likes of Manchester United and Juventus as well so it will be important for Conte to get this deal done quickly if he is convinced that Lemar is the man to take the club forward next season.
