Various reports have stated that La Liga supergiants Barcelona are plotting a summer move for Premier League sensation Christian Eriksen, whose displays in the attacking midfield have tremendously impressed the historic club.
The Catalans have had a season to forget so far, this season as they have crashed out of the Champions League and the domestic title remains for Real Madrid’s to lose as per current La Liga table. While they achieved a nerve-wracking win over Real last weekend, which puts them above the Whites momentarily on goal difference, they have played a game more and Real are unlikely to falter in the remaining fixtures.
Barcelona haven’t been their prolific self this season despite the side scoring a staggering 94 goals in the league. La Liga is hardly competitive compared to Premier League, and Barcelona’s free-scoring form faced a huge slump when facing bigger opponents. A good example will be Juventus, who read Barca’s game properly and totally shut them out.
Andres Iniesta has had an injury-plagued season this season that limited the playmaker’s services to just 20 games, in which he could register just 3 assists. It left Barcelona with the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Rafinha, Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez, who have all been big disappointments. With a new manager at the helm next season, the club is looking to right the wrongs that the previous transfer season brought.
And Eriksen seems to be the ideal option in that midfield at the moment. Tottenham Hotspur have shown all their critics what they are capable of, this season, and in the centre of it stands the Danish playmaker. He has scored 11 goals and registered an incredible 20 assists so far. He is one of the main reasons that Spurs still remain in the title race.
A number of names, mostly midfielders, are expected to leave Nou Camp in the summer, which should pave the way for him. A central midfielder by nature but manager Mauricio Pochettino has hardly played him in that role this season. He has been seen mostly on the wings from where he has linked brilliantly with Dele Alli and Heung Min-Son.
The Ajax academy product possesses some insane dribbling and shooting skills. He has completed 1312 passes this season with a passing accuracy of 80%. With him behind Messi, Neymar and Suarez, Barca can get back to their superior self once again.
Mirror reports that the Spanish club is planning to use legend Michael Laudrup to try and convince him. His contract with the side runs till 2020 and Spurs are in no hurry of renewing his contract. And given his significance at the club, Barca will have to splash some major cash to land him.
