The 22-year spell of legendary central defender John Terry recently ended with an announcement from the ex-England captain to leave Chelsea at the end of this season. This has irked clubs like West Bromwich Albion, Bournemouth and West Ham United to secure the services of the departing defender from Stamford Bridge.
Considered a front-runner in the race, West Ham United is the club where the Chelsea legend spent the early days of his career before moving to Chelsea. West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has confirmed his interest in the 36-year-old player, saying that he is one of the best instances of leadership on the pitch, just like his compatriots Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand.
John Terry, while announcing about the current one being his last season at the London club, also said that he feels like having at least a couple of years of football left in him. When asked about whether John Terry would sit fit in the current line-up of West Ham, the Croatian told that it is never too late for a player with the charisma of John Terry to play for any of the Premier League clubs.
However, Bilic also elaborated on the fact that it is not an ardent necessity for the Hammers to bring in a defender at the position in central defence right now. He said that there are enough amenities in the defensive sphere present at the disposal of West Ham United to see them through.
Joe Fonte hasn’t exactly taken to the London Stadium like fish to water and there have been instances where he has been criticised by the home fans for a number of results. There is a certain element of uncertainty and someone like Terry can certainly come in and bring some calm to the proceedings.
Rumours are there that John Terry has been contacted by clubs like West Bromwich Albion, with their manager Toni Pulis being fond of the Chelsea centre-back as much as Slaven Bilic. In fact, West Bromwich Albion is said to have made considerable progress in acquiring the ex-England defender to play for them in the forthcoming season.
Bournemouth is another club which is linked with the Chelsea legend. It is being rumoured that the Cherries have done a double to secure the services of John Terry, along with another English veteran Jermaine Defoe to play for them the next season. Jermaine Defoe was formerly on a loan spell with Bournemouth earlier in his career.
