There has been a cultivation of an intriguing charm at Everton under the regime of Ronald Koeman, who has left no stone unturned whilst his tenure so far at the Goodison Park to assemble a decent side which could go a long way.
The Toffees have really thrived well this campaign, having collected 57 points from 33 games in the Premier League and are currently placed 7th on the league table.
With the creation of the necessary impetus well and truly constructed, it is time for Koeman and company to maraud forward and aim for a berth in the Champions League.
It would be blatant and foolish to underline that Everton do not have the best of squads in England, but they are eager to bolster their ranks once the curtains of the summer transfer window open with more quality and serial winners to solidify their credentials.
Apparently, one of the players they have been reported to have put on their radar is Manchester City’s skipper, Vincent Kompany.
Without any shadow of a doubt, he is still a genuine target. The 31-year-old has suffered from another season wrecked by injuries and could muster merely 5 league appearances for the Citizens in which he has made 0.6 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 2.6 clearances and 0.4 blocks per game on an average.
The Belgium international’s absence has indeed hurt Pep Guardiola’s backline which has timorously shivered without their leader and the wide range of such anecdotes tell us why he can be the cornerstone to rectify a top quality side’s defensive frailties.
Although his issues with injuries might have blighted his career of late, he is still one of the finest and most resolute defenders in the top tier of English football when he is fit.
Tall, strong and immensely resilient, Kompany is a leader every team craves to have in their arsenal as he leads the team like a genuine commander. At this stroke of the hour, he might not be a long-term solution for Manchester City and this is how Everton come into the equation.
The Toffees’ interest in him does make perfect sense but again, the former Southampton manager must see that the big Belgian ends the ongoing campaign in a fine nick.
With Ashley Williams, Kompany could cement a thumping partnership at the heart of Everton’s defence and earn them the tag of being a genuine contender for the top four spots in the coming seasons.
