In what will come as astonishing news, Jose Mourinho is reportedly preparing to spend insane amounts on two-star strikers, Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku and wants them to join Zlatan Ibrahimović at Old Trafford next season.
Mourinho has won a domestic league title in each of his second seasons with four different clubs and it looks like he wants to do everything he can to keep up his record. But how will the two strike partners fit in along with the Swede at Old Trafford next season?
The report goes on to suggest that Mourinho wants Zlatan to be a godfather of the club for the next season. This will mean that the Swedish star could be replaced as the first-choice striker in the league next season.
He could yet be used as a striker in cup games but according to reports, he may be confined to knockout games, pushing Mourinho into the market for an extra striker. This is where Mourinho’s £160m raid for the strike duo makes more sense than it initially does.
Romelu Lukaku, with his consistent goal scoring form, could cost Manchester United around £70m but is a player who will settle into the club in no time.
Having already worked under Mourinho at the Stamford Bridge, Lukaku should not take the time to adjust to the challenges of the new club and Mourinho is expected to use him to lead the attacking line. Lukaku should be a like-for-like replacement for Zlatan in his goal scoring boots next season.
With Lukaku leading the attacking line and Zlatan firing on from the bench, Jose Mourinho also wants Atletico star Antoine Griezmann. Though it looks a bit too ambitious, Mourinho is not too far away from landing the jackpot.
The French star can not only play as a striker but can act effective as a supporting striker and this might make Manchester United one of the best clubs in Europe next season.
The Red Devils have to improve their back line and start defending well, but they have had severe goal scoring problems which Mourinho has decided to solve by spending the £160m on Griezmann and Lukaku this summer.
Lukaku can run the lines and act as a target man, while Griezmann can play off him, making runs beyond him and exploiting the space Lukaku has made. This position was expected to be Wayne Rooney’s this season but the skipper has failed to keep himself fit and Mourinho wants Griezmann to play this role next season.
A front line of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Lukaku, Griezmann and Martial is probably the best in Europe at the moment and more than the star names, it is how they complement each other, that makes this lineup all the more dangerous. But do you think Jose Mourinho will spend on the duo this summer?
