Arsene Wenger will not be a happy man with the performances of his side recently. He will look to improve on the squad at the end of the season but has bigger problems to look at this summer.
Top goal scorer and the most important player in the side, Alexis Sanchez, is not ready to extend his stay at the Emirates and is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract. He will enter his final season at the club if he decides to stay but is being scouted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Wenger will not want him to leave but is it time for Arsenal to move on? Should they sell the winger this summer?
Having started regularly in a false-9 position, Sanchez has been productive in front of goal for his side, scoring 23 goals and picking up 12 assists in all competitions this season.
However, Arsenal’s failure to close matches away and the lack of form for star players has seen Sanchez struggle in the last few games and was caught frustrated on more than one occasion. He has often been dejected with Arsenal’s recent results and he looks closer to the exit by the day.
It would be insane normally for Arsenal to even consider selling Sanchez, who at 28, is in his prime. But it is quite evident that the Chilean is not liking life at the Emirates anymore and it might be best for both parties to part ways.
Sanchez is a professional football and there is little chance of him not putting in the effort from now to the end of the season. But Arsenal will not want a man who is desperate and frustrated right from the start of the next season. Yes, the 28-year old is almost irreplaceable but Wenger is expected to demand north of £50m, which should give him enough money to spend on a replacement.
The former Barcelona man can improve every squad he walks into so Arsenal should be careful not to sell to rivals as it can easily come back and haunt them next season.
The biggest problem for Wenger in selling Sanchez this summer will be finding his replacement, but with a couple of months left this season and another couple before the transfer window, Wenger has enough time to find an able replacement for his side going into the next season.
Sanchez is right up there with the best in the business at the moment and will be a huge loss for Arsenal but if the player’s ambitions are that much different to the club’s, it is better to part ways than to be making headlines every other day.
Do you think Wenger should sell Sanchez and will he find a proper replacement this summer?
