A 3-0 away triumph against second-placed Aberdeen uplifted the spirits of Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers FC who are currently third in the Scottish Premiership table and were host to Partick Thistle at Ibrox this afternoon.
The fixture was expected to be a cakewalk for the Gers who have already defeated them twice this season. However, an almost one-way traffic ended in 2-0 favour of the home side who have now strengthened their hopes to secure a third-placed finish in order to qualify for next season’s Europa League qualifying round 1.
Below are the Rangers FC players rated from the fixture.
Wes Foderingham: 7
Was mostly untested. Made a routine stop in the first half to deny Ryan Edwards’ shot from a narrow-angle. Parried away Erskine’s effort in second half.
James Tavernier: 8
Tavernier kept on making overlapping runs and combined well with Hyndman down the right-hand flank. His perfect cross for veteran Kenny Miller helped his side to break the deadlock.
David Bates: 7
Bates delivered another impressive performance in their 2-0 win. He helped his side to keep back to back clean sheets and pulled off some important blocks and interceptions. Impressed with his physicality and aerial presence.
Danny Wilson: 7
Wilson did well alongside Bates as he was in the right place at the right time and never allowed the Jags to create any threat in the attacking third.
Myles Beerman: 7.5
Another impressive outing by the teenager who ran tirelessly through the left-hand flank and combined well with McKay and Dodoo. Concentrated on defensive duties when required and impressed with his shooting ability.
Jason Holt: 7
Holt controlled the game from midfield. Used the width of the pitch to stretch it to both flanks that helped the Gers’ in their wing-play. Screened his defence when needed.
Jon Toral: 8
Toral scored the second goal of the game picking up Hyndman’s delivery and fired it in from ten yards. Linked up well with the attackers and played some impressive through balls for them. Was replaced by Andy Halliday in the closing minutes.
Emerson Hyndman: 7.5
Another imposing performance from the American. Used some quick footwork to get through into the box and passed it to Toral who fired home from close range to double the lead. Tested the keeper, made some impressive runs and kept the Jags’ back-line on toes.
Barrie McKay: 6
The contract rebel had a decent start as he linked up well with Beerman down the left-hand flank. Was taken off at half-time to be replaced by Joe Dodoo.
Kenny Miller: 8
The 37-year old veteran scored a brace against Aberdeen last week. He continued his fine form and slotted home with a thumping header to break the deadlock in the first half.
Could have doubled his tally in the second half, was denied by a marvellous stop from Thistle custodian Tomas Cerny.
Martyn Waghorn: 6
Waghorn came close to mark his name to the score-sheet, but could not beat the keeper. Was replaced by Joe Garner in the second half.
Substitutes
Joe Dodoo: 6
Had an outstanding cameo last week against Aberdeen. However, could not repeat his excellence today despite troubling the Jags’ defence with his pace and runs.
Joe Garner: 5
Came in place of Waghorn. Failed to make any noteworthy contribution.
Andy Halliday: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
