Ronald Koeman’s Everton seem to be the only club outside the top-6 in the Premier League that has what it takes to break into a place in Europe in the next couple of season.
But the manager will have to make a number of additions to his squad at the end of the season to help them reach that level Koeman has been looking at a number of star players recently but one player who is recently on the radar at the Goodison Park is midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The Belgian star has been at Anderlecht, a Belgian club, for more than three seasons now and has 25 goals in 128 league appearance in his country. He has represented the junior levels for Belgium consistently and has also made a couple of senior appearances, all at a tender age of 19.
He was known as one of the brightest stars in Europe a couple of years ago but he has added goals to his name, scoring 18 and assisting a further 11 in his time at Anderlecht this season in all competitions. Koeman is convinced that he is ready for the next step and is ready to make him the cog in the midfield at the Goodison Park next season.
Known for his passing ability, Tielemans is a central midfielder who can play just in front of the back-4 comfortably. But he is at his best in a slightly attacking role where he can unleash his range of passing.
He is not the quickest or the strongest player around but is a player who knows his way through to goal.
His biggest strength is his ball control, which allows him to dictate the tempo of the game in a midfield role. Having played at the highest level for a long time, Tielemans is definitely ready for the next step but is it at the Merseyside?
Koeman has used Idrissa Gueye, who has been in sensational form, to great effect this season. While Morgan Schneiderlin has been used extensively since the January transfer window, Gareth Barry has acted as a cover if needed.
Barry might not be at the club in the long term so Koeman is in the market for a midfielder and Tielemans could be a great option.
Gueye’s industry and energy in the midfield will allow the Belgian star to take his time and play his game in the middle of the park for Everton.
Schneiderlin has been decent but Tielemans, his creatively along with his goal threat are a better option for Everton and if Koeman can get him to adjust quickly, Tielemans can quickly turn into the next best in the PL.
His long range shooting is only an added incentive but do you think Everton can snatch him up this summer?
