It hasn’t been a convincing season on their return to the top flight of Scottish football for Rangers as they have failed to mount any sort of a substantial challenge to their arch rivals Celtic who are comprehensively running away with the league silverware.
After the exit of Mark Warburton, Pedro Caixinha has been handed the command of the ship at the Ibrox Stadium and the Portuguese would want to stamp his authority at the club by making some notable signings over the summer.
Arguably, it is the attacking setup of the Gers which needs some ramifications and reportedly, the Glasgow giants are believed to be interested in signing Gil Vicente’s forward Paulinho.
The Portuguese has been in fine nick in Liga Vitalis (Portuguese football’s second tier) so far this season, having banged 12 goals in 29 appearances for the club and considering the fact that his contract expires in the summer, he would unarguably be a fine addition to Caixinha’s armoury as he plans to revolutionise the club.
Paulinho is predominantly a right winger who could also ply his trade as a striker and will delicately slot in the 4-3-3 formation with the Light Blues. He is skilful, thrives on pace and creativity and is touted as one of the hottest properties which the Portuguese football has on offer.
Finding the back of the net has been an area of concern for Rangers and laying their hands on someone like this 24-year-old could eradicate a lot of mess which has been circling around the historically rich club for quite some time now.
Kenny Miller’s contractual situation is still in the balance and without any shadow of a doubt, Rangers shall be looking to vouch for someone who could cater to the offensive responsibilities of the club for years to come and Paulinho does fit the bill.
The former Trofense attacker can be the required impetus for an upward trajectory of form of Rangers and signing such a high calibre player would be an ideal move by them.
Intriguingly, Paulinho and Caixinha’s have a common agent in the shape of Pedro Mendes who can negotiate a deal between the two parties involved. The former Portuguese U21 should be personally looking for a growth in his career and Rangers could be his breeding ground for excellence.
Besides, the Teddy Bears shall get Paulinho for free (if the deal manages to get over the line) and there is hardly anything more which the former Al Gharafa boss could possibly ask for.
