After the defeat to Everton, Craig Shakespeare will turn his focus to Atletico Madrid. The defending Premier League champions will be facing a rejuvenated Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon. Atleti will be boosted by their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid while Leicester City had their first defeat under Shakespeare.
Leicester need to shake themselves up as they will be facing a squad that have reached the Champions League finals twice in the last three years. Leicester’s recent run of games under their new manager has been an inspiring one but the defeat against Everton took them to back to their awful form when they were struggling earlier this season.
The unavailability of Wes Morgan will be a huge blow for Shakespeare. Everton exploited their defence pretty well and Diego Simeone would love to expose their defensive vulnerabilities with the likes of Antoine Griezmann in their ranks. Leicester are one of the lowest scoring sides in the Champions League and they would surely want to better their scoring rate.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Leicester City Lineup against Atletico Madrid
Defence
Kasper Schmeichel paid the price of some shoddy keeping in the last match and he will have to be at his best to give his team an edge in this match.
Wes Morgan’s absence continues to haunt the Foxes. Yohan Benalouane was very rusty in the last match and once again will be handed the defensive duties.
Robert Huth will be the other central defender alongside him.
Christian Fuchs hasn’t contributed significantly this season and will take the left-back position. He’ll need to come up with a good performance.
Danny Simpson plays a very important part with his forward runs but will also have to stop Yannick Carrasco from making his marauding runs through the flanks.
Midfield
Danny Drinkwater is far from his last season’s form but has impressed in the last few games. Leicester need him to boss the midfield.
Onyinye Ndidi has had a remarkable impact in the holding midfield position and can add some balance to the midfield.
Attack
Marc Albrighton is expected to start on the left and his crosses will be key to getting the best out of the two strikers.
Riyad Mahrez has shown splashes of brilliance and he has to continue his form if Leicester want to create an upset.
Jamie Vardy has been very ordinary but he has the capability to destroy any team’s defence.
Islam Slimani hasn’t played much but in these matches, he could bring a feel good factor to the team.
