The North London club is home to many exciting talents, which include the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Francis Coquelin, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and many more. And the latest of them to earn rumours of an exit from Emirates is Arsenal’s versatile player Chamberlain.
The 23-year-old has had an eye-catching season this year despite seeing more appearances from the bench. And as per reports, Manchester City are very much interested in landing the English sensation next summer. The Portsmouth-born player joined the North London club back in 2011 following the footsteps of Theo Walcott from Southampton and has grown into one of Arsenal’s utility player in recent times.
Chamberlain can play on the right-wing, left-wing, right wing-back, central midfielder and even as a number 10 when needed. Against Bayern Munich, when Arsenal had to do without their playmaker Mesut Ozil behind Alexis Sanchez, Chamberlain was seen in the playmaker’s role. And when Francis Coquelin remained sidelined with injuries, Wenger deployed him alongside Granit Xhaka to win the ball in the congested midfield.
Chamberlain’s importance in the Arsenal squad is huge and Arsene Wenger doesn’t shy away from expressing it. In a recent interview, the Frenchman said, “I personally think it is vital that Chamberlain stays at Arsenal… We bought him when he was very young, we have built him up and I think he has a great mentality… It would be a big damage for us to lose this kind of player.”
Pep Guardiola is fond of the Arsenal star and believes he could play a major role for Manchester City next season. His ability to play in multiple positions and bringing out the team from pressure situations, make him a valuable asset for any side. His good physique and acceleration are applauded by many that helps him to drive forward outmuscling opponents, an attribute that is very much essential in the English Premier league.
And though City could come in with a huge wage and ludicrous transfer fee, we don’t expect Chamberlain to leave the club that has stuck by him through thick and thin. Repeated injuries in early seasons have led him to miss many matches for the London side.
Serious knee injuries have forced him to miss as many 43 games in his six-year stint at the club but Wenger has kept faith in him, giving him time to mature that ultimately led him to earn 25 England caps till date.
