Manchester United are expecting a major overhaul next season with a lot of names expected to leave the side, which mostly feature the aged candidates. And an odd one out of the young lot, who is heavily rumoured to leave Old Trafford is Luke Shaw.
The 21-year-old was one of the highly-rated teenagers to join United back in 2014 but has since faded out owing to repeated injuries. The story hasn’t panned out any differently this season and his slow recovery and patchy form have led manager Jose Mourinho to criticise the player publicly on many occasions.
He has managed just 10 appearances this season where he has failed to score or assist even once. And his lack of confidence was further shaken by the vile condemnation by Mourinho.
Mourinho’s act has led many pundits to criticise his approach with Phil Thompson even stating that the manager could lose the confidence of the dressing room if he continued it. A player of Shaw’s calibre will never be short of suitors in the transfer market and if he decides to part ways with United as scenarios are indicating, here are three clubs who would be desperate to land him-
Liverpool- Liverpool’s defence has been one of the most hotly debated topics among the experts from this season. Jurgen Klopp’s attacking setup has led many to assume that the German coach doesn’t highly rate defending as such and the number of goals Liverpool conceded (40) is evident of that. And of the full back line, the only position that Liverpool lacks a natural player is a left-back.
Alberto Moreno’s displays have reduced him to be a bench player with Klopp deploying James Milner in that role. And that decision has made it difficult to replace Jordan Henderson in the central midfield when needed. The Reds would definitely go for Shaw if he is made available.
Arsenal- Arsenal have more or less a complete squad and it has been repeatedly stated this season that with a few tweaks here and there, the Gunners could challenge for the title next season. And one such modification is surely needed on the left defensive flank.
The available options of Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal haven’t been a total failure, but their inconsistencies have cost Arsenal on numerous occasions. With Gibbs looking to move out in search of first team chances, Arsenal might have an ideal replacement in Shaw.
Manchester City- Like their Manchester counterparts, the Citizens are also looking for a total revamp before kicking off next season. And a major part of its remodelling is expected to take place at their backline.
Pep Guardiola has found it difficult to implement his free-flowing setup on the existing players. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager prefers younger players who are still open to learning his way of gameplay and Luke Shaw would be the perfect man to take the place of Gael Clichy.
