Manchester United managed to get back to winning ways after their victory over Sunderland pushed them closer to a place in the top-4. But the manager has already started planning for life next season as he is looking for star players who can add quality to the squad next season. While he will look to improve the squad, he might also have to find a replacement for United’s most consistent player in the previous seasons, David de Gea.
The Spaniard is right up there with the best shot-stoppers in the game at the moment and has been in terrific form this season. He has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu for a long time now and reports suggest that Zinedine Zidane, the current manager for Real, has decided to bring De Gea back to his homeland this summer. Mourinho will not want to lose his star but is already looking at the players who can replace him next season. And reports today suggest that he is not looking too far away from Manchester and wants to go shopping in London.
The Daily Express has recently claimed that Manchester United are ready to lure Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to the Old Trafford this summer. The French international is also among the best in Europe at the moment and had a decent time between the sticks at the Lane this season. He is settled and only signed a new deal last December to stay till 2022, but the report suggests that he is looking for a club where he can win some trophies and United seem to be a possible destination.
But that is not something that Manchester United fans should be excited about at the moment. Do not get me wrong! Lloris has been exceptional this season and in general, helping Spurs to stand as genuine contenders for Champions League football recently. He has 14 clean sheets to his name in all competitions and is also the first choice for his country. But he is 3 already and is not an option for years to come.
The likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Paull Pogba and Eric Bailly, are all the future for the club and Mourinho seems determined to plan for the future. Lloris will be consistent for the next couple of seasons but United will have to fall in a search for a shot-stopper yet again in a couple of years. So, it is better for them to find a long-term replacement, who can slowly get himself into the first team and cement his place there.
Lloris is probably a safe option for Jose Mourinho but surely, Mourinho should not be looking to replace a 26-year old David de Gea, who is entering his prime, with a 30-year old Hugo Lloris, who is not going to get any better. But do you think the Spurs star is United’s best option this summer?
