According to reports, Gerard Deulofeu is set to make a move to Barcelona. The La Masia product is currently plying his trade at AC Milan on loan and he could be the first signing for Barcelona in the summer as the Catalans are planning a swoop for the talented Spaniard.
The winger once touted to be the next big thing in Europe had shown flashes of brilliance but things didn’t turn out the way it should have. Despite impressing for Barcelona B, the 23-year-old had failed to make a mark in the first team. The Catalans decided to loan him to Everton in 2013.
After a few loan spells at Everton and Sevilla, the Barcelona hierarchy understood that the player was not up to the mark to ply his trade at the Nou Camp and decided to sell him permanently to Everton. Although they did include a buyback clause in the contract and it seems they are going to trigger that to initiate a move for the player.
Since making a move to Italy, the player has been playing with renewed hopes and his form in the red and black colours opened a door for him to the Spanish national team.
Deulofeu somehow has failed to fulfil the promise he had shown during the early stages of his career. Barcelona had high hopes on Deulofeu and the player was even handed a first team debut by Pep Guardiola. But things have not shaped the way since his departure from Nou Camp.
There is absolutely no doubt that he is a tremendous talent but when it comes to performing in a team Deulofeu somehow lacks the quality. Since his move to Everton, he remained as a special player who doesn’t perform when needed.
But after his move to Milan, he is showing the maturity as a player. The 23-year-old has featured in 11 matches for Milan and has netted one alongside grabbing three assists at the San Siro.
It has been decided that Barcelona are going to secure the services of him once the transfer window opens. The right side of the attack has been a problem for Enrique. Since he opted to play a more attacking 3-4-3, a number of players have been used in that position with Rafinha being the most common. Deulofeu would provide much depth to the position and would give a stiff competition to the likes of Rafinha and Sergi Roberto.
