Following a defeat to Chelsea, Manchester City will now host Hull City in what has now become virtually a must-win game for the Citizens if they want to finish in the top 4. The loss at the hand of Chelsea dented a massive blow to Manchester City’s title hopes and extinguished whatever flicker of hope Guardiola’s men had as far as the title race is concerned.
Manchester City have performed much better in the recent run of games but haven’t managed a win in the last four matches including in last night’s match against Chelsea. Guardiola’s men have not been able to convert their chances into goals which have seen them spiral downwards in the Premier League table. Manchester City have failed to utilise their home comfort but the fact that Hull’s away record is far from impressive could work in their favour.
Manchester City needs to get full points in the next match against Hull City to set the ball rolling on the finals stage of the season.
Predicted 4-1-4-1 Manchester City Lineup Vs Hull City
Defence
Both Claudio Bravo and Willy Caballero have failed to earn the praise of Guardiola. Caballero has so far done a decent job and should retain his spot in the starting lineup.
Vincent Kompany was a bit rusty in the last match but if he remains fit, he will start. Injury has halted his progress but still, he is regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
John Stones was struggling to get into his groove but has improved significantly of late. Guardiola is not expected to tweak his centre back pairing.
After the defeat to Chelsea, Jesus Navas will make the way for Pablo Zabaleta in the right back position.
Gael Clichy has been inconsistent throughout this season but will start for Manchester City.
Midfield
Fernandinho has been the most underrated player in this Manchester City squad and has performed with his heart and soul to every game he has played in. He will definitely retain his place in the midfield.
David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne will be further up front in the midfield. One of the best-attacking midfield pairs in the Premier League, they need to provide that flair to edge Marco Silva’s side.
Attack
Leroy Sane’s growth as a player in the recent months has been simply outstanding. The German teenager has clinched a permanent place in Guardiola’s side and will continue to retain his place in the starting lineup.
Raheem Sterling didn’t start the last game but given the importance of the match, he will be started in the right wing.
Sergio Aguero needs to work on his finishing but will definitely start against Hull City.
