After biting the dust against Bristol City and Burton Albion, Huddersfield Town returned to winning ways as they clinched a handsomely constructed 3-0 win over Norwich City in the Championship’s midweek fixture.
The victory cemented their chances of earning a playoff berth and despite the likelihood that the Terries might have blown their opportunity of bagging an automatic promotion, they are still on course to get uplifted to the top flight of English football, owing to the calibre they have put on display.
Huddersfield Town are currently placed 3rd in the league table with 74 points from 39 games in what has proved to be a season blessed with resurrection. Mind you, they concluded last season by loitering as low as 19th in the league table and their rise in stature has not been a child’s play.
Under the excellent management of David Wagner, the players have performed when it mattered and the results have thus yielded in their favour. One of the most reliable and consistently performing assets for Huddersfield Town this campaign has undoubtedly been their midfielder, Aaron Mooy.
Signed on loan from Premier League heavyweights, Manchester City, Mooy has taken the Championship by storm. The 26-year-old has plied his trade in 38 league outings for Huddersfield Town and has banged 4 goals and registered 5 assists in what is arguably turning out to be the best season in his career.
Despite being a central defensive midfielder, he has operated as a central attacking midfielder as well as central midfielder whenever he has been called upon to do so by his gaffer and has delivered with sheer precision.
He was on the score sheet when Wagner’s men outclassed the Canaries at The John Smith’s Stadium and played an instrumental role in the game. So far this term, the Australian international has made 2.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.3 clearances and 0.2 blocks every game on an average with a handsome pass accuracy of 82.6%.
Mooy has been knitting a shrewd balance between his offensive and defensive endeavours and so far, the dividends that have been yielded are simply exemplary.
Mooy has been ambitious, reliable and a hard worker who has thrived this season and without any shadow of a doubt, he has been one of the best players in the second tier this season.
The former Melbourne City defender might be recalled to the Etihad Stadium by Pep Guardiola after the reminiscences of brilliance from him but he would carve a mark in the hearts of Huddersfield Town faithful by earning them a promotion to the Premier League.
