Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently in the middle of a decent season but a few issues in the squad has seen them lose out on a chance to compete for the title with Chelsea. Spurs will, however, look to compete for the grand prize next season and Pochettino is already looking at possible options to add to his squad this summer.
Out of the number of star players linked with a move to the White Hart Lane, Sampdoria striker Patrik Schick is one that is creating excitement among the fans. But who is Schick? What will he bring to the Lane this summer?
Born and brought up in Prague, Czech Republic, Schick is one of the most exciting stars in the domestic circuit in his country and he only moved to Italy at the start of the current season. However, he did not take too long to establish himself in the first team at the Italian club this season.
He has already made 26 appearances in all competitions for Sampdoria, scoring nine goals and picking up two assists in his time at the club. He has been consistently fruitful in front of goal and has now attracted interest from PL trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Known for his strength and ability to keep hold of the ball in dangerous areas, Schick is a quick and tall striker who knows his way to goal. He is extremely strong in the air but is also adept at playing short passes in close quarters.
He loves to play around his teammates before finding some space in the final third while his dribbling abilities only make him that much more dangerous. Even at just 21, he is capable of leading the attacking line for his side and Pochettino will be attracted to most of these attributes.
Spurs will see Harry Kane keep his place in the first team next season but his only backup in the current squad, Vincent Janssen has just not convinced the manager enough to stop him from spending on a striker.
But with Daniel Levy unlikely to spend big this summer on a striker, Pochettino might have to settle for a fringe name and Schick is one that can fit in well. Young, quick and potentially world class, the Czech international ticks most boxes for the manager at the White Hart Lane and could be the next signing for the Spurs.
He is still under the radar of the biggest clubs in Europe and if he stays in Italy and has another productive season, he may well attract interest from elsewhere making it tougher for the Spurs to lure him to the Lane.
So Pochettino should act quickly and add Schick to his squad at the club for the next season, as a backup for Kane and Janssen and also as an attacking addition.
