It will be a daunting task for Sunderland when they will travel to the Vicarage Road to face Watford. The Black Cats are currently at the bottom of the Premier League table and needs to reshape themselves to give their best for the remaining 10 games in the Premier League.
Watford have leaked 48 goals this season and Walter Mazzarri’s side has one of the worst defensive records. Sunderland defeated Watford the last time they met with a solitary goal from Patrick Van Aanholt and the Black Cats can surely fancy their chances with Jermain Defoe up front. The 34-year-old has been the only bright spot to talk about despite Sunderland’s poor season.
Sunderland have to get rid of their slow and steady approach and have to go all out to get the season back on track. A number of injuries have troubled David Moyes’ side but the Black Cats have been lacking the necessary creative and attacking threat throughout the season.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Sunderland Lineup Against Watford
Defence
Jordan Pickford will once again be in the Sunderland goal. The England U-23 international has been very consistent with his performance under the bar.
The departure of Patrick Van Aanholt has made the way for Bryan Oviedo. The 27-year-old hasn’t been able to reproduce the kind of form but is very creative attacking wise.
Billy Jones wasted a number of gilt-edged chances against Burnley and will be hoping he doesn’t repeat his mistake against Watford.
John O’Shea has been suffering from an injury but will be fit for the game. Partnering him at the centre of defence will be Lamine Kone who is also nursing an injury but is expected to be available for the next match.
Midfield
Didier Ndong and Darron Gibson would be the midfield pairing. They will act as the cover for the defence and will also try to link with the attacking players.
Attack
Sebastian Larsson would start in the no. 10 position and would try to feed more and more balls to Jermaine Defoe who has been the sole attacking threat for the Black Cats.
Fabio Borini will be the man on the left wing. He doesn’t have the pace but has the capability to create chances for his teammates.
Adnan Januzaj has shown flashes of brilliance this season and will have the responsibility to keep the right wing mobile.
Jermain Defoe has been their player of this season and would hope to continue his goal scoring form.
