Following Newcastle United’s draw against Birmingham City, Chris Hughton’s Brighton and Hove Albion got another opportunity to go on top of the Championship table ahead of their away trip to Elland Road against Leeds United who are enjoying a productive campaign under Gary Monk and comfortably placed in top six in order to achieve a promotion via play-offs. However, the crucial fixture ended in a 0-2 defeat for the Seagulls and they slipped another opportunity to go on top of the table.
Brighton and Hove Albion Players Rated And Slated In Their Defeat Against Leeds United
David Stockdale: 6
The custodian was impressive on a few occasions to deal with Leeds United’s crosses with his outing and punching. Could have done nothing in either of Chris Wood’s brace.
Fikayo Tomori: 5
Struggled throughout the game to stop Leeds United’s crosses and his late challenge cost his side a penalty towards the end that resulted in Chris Wood’s second of the evening.
Uwe Hünemeier: 6
Headed out few dangerous crosses for corners and cleared a number of Leeds’ effort.
Lewis Dunk: 5
Should have done better to resist Wood scoring his first as he failed to contain him in most occasions.
Liam Rosenior: 5.5
The left fullback made a few decent runs and whipped in a few decent balls for Baldock and Murray. He looked concerned after picking up a yellow that impacted his influence on the game.
Dale Stephens: 5
Could have done better to screen his defence more often. Did well to hold the ball in midfield; could not constitute movement from the middle of the pitch as he clearly lacked support.
Beram Kayal: 5
The Israeli international started the game well but faded away too soon as he failed to make his trademark runs and create chances for the attackers. Was subbed off for last few minutes.
Anthony Knockaert: 5
Knockaert, one of the most influential performers for the Seagulls this season, struggled to be involved in the game and failed to deliver his excellence despite making a few good forward movements.
Jiri Skalak: 5.5
Had an impressive start but like Kayal, faded away with time. Was denied by Green in the second half and was replaced by Solly March with 20 minutes remaining.
Sam Baldock: 6
Baldock came close to find the back of the net. Was denied by Green. Delivered a few dangerous crosses and also linked up well with Glenn Murray upfront. Unfortunately, he failed to equalise before being replaced by Chuba Akpom.
Glenn Murray: 5
The Englishman linked up well with Baldock but failed to find the back of the net. Missed from close range, was denied by Green towards the end.
Substitutes
Solly March: 6
The winger scored in his last appearance at Elland Road and brought in much-needed variety in Brighton’s attack. He made a few positive moves from the left-hand flank and whipped in a few decent balls for the attackers who failed to score.
Chuba Akpom: 4
Came in place of Baldock. Failed to create anything spectacular.
