In a feisty London Derby where Tottenham clashed against Millwall, it was a Korean who made the headlines and ran the show. Tottenham ensured that they booked a trip to Wembley again as a hat-trick from Son and goals from Eriksen, Janssen and Alli saw them advance to the Semi-Finals with a possibility of setting up another all-London affair with Arsenal too being in it.
A breathtaking goal from his left and two clever runs with composed finishes made sure Son got his hat-trick. Alli tapped in from an Eriksen corner and the Dane had earlier broken the deadlock with an accurate finish. Vincent Janssen let out a huge sigh of relief as his neatly placed goal totally put the tie out of doubt.
The only bitter moment from the game was the injury suffered by Harry Kane. The striker had to be taken off after turning his ankle and he could miss some time which will not help Spurs in their chase for the title.
Here are the player ratings.
1) Michel Vorm – 7/10
Good handling and ball playing ability. Hardly tested on the evening, though.
2) RB: Kieran Trippier – 7/10
His pace is an asset and created another dimension down the right. Crossing not the best but he grew confident as the game went on. His lovely floated ball was the assist for Son’s second. A good show on a rare start.
3) CB: Toby Alderweireld – 7.5/10
A sublime performance physically as he kept a firm grip on the Millwall attack. Genuinely a rising star.
4) CB: Jan Vertonghen – 7/10
Needed to settle and assert himself and he did it well. Complimented his Belgian teammate perfectly again.
5) Eric Dier – 6/10
Looked tidy as part of the back three.
6) LB: Ben Davies – 7/10
Looks hugely confident with his play now. Made very good runs forward and defensively handled himself well. Tottenham needed him with the absence of Rose and he hasn’t been a disappointment.
7) CM: Victor Wanyama – 6/10
Did his job cleanly and bossed the midfield as the game grew.
8) CM: Harry Winks – 7/10
Looked quite mature and mentally positive. His passes were accurate and he kept the flow ticking.
9) RF: Son Heung-Min – 9/10
His dazzling dribbles, swift movements and an eye for a positive outcome are always very helpful. Got into very tidy positions to grab a hat-trick and a sublime shot got him his first. Terrific performance!
10) LF: Dele Alli – 8/10
His flair makes him stand out. Looked classy throughout the game and got a good goal after making a good run.
11) Harry Kane – 5/10
Subbed off early after an injury. Spurs would hope it’s not serious.
