Queens Park Rangers have delivered improved performances since the arrival of Ian Holloway. The Hoops had climbed up to the 14th spot of the league table ahead of their away trip to Leeds United at Elland Road. Leeds, fighting for a promotion under Garry Monk, were looking for a victory following their midweek draw against Fulham. However, the Peacocks failed to take home advantage as the veteran QPR boss tactically outplayed Monk to earn a point from a scoreless draw.
Below are the QPR players rated from the fixture.
Alex Smithies: 6
Got the benefit of QPR’s back three setups and remained largely untested throughout.
Nedum Onuoha: 8
Was excellent defensively as he denied the Leeds’ attacks one after another pulling off blocks, interceptions, tackles and clearances. A captain’s performance.
Grant Hall: 7.5
Hall, too, did well in the middle of back three as he contained the quick feet Leeds’ wingers and big man Chris Wood.
Joel Lynch: 7
Lynch was in the right place at the right time to intercept Leeds’ movements.
Darnell Furlong: 7.5
Settled in well in the right wingback role and whipped in a few decent crosses for 6’6 Matt Smith. Explored the right-hand flank and tracked back when Leeds’ were on the counter.
Massimo Luongo: 7
Luongo’s runs down the middle with great pace and control often troubled the Peacocks’ backline.
Luke Freeman: 7
Freeman worked tirelessly in a box to box role as he helped his defence when required and made attacking contribution at times.
Jake Bidwell: 7.5
Bidwell had an impressive outing in the left wing-back role. He was more involved in attacks down the left-hand flank and used the width of the pitch well to whip in crosses.
Pawel Wszolek: 7
Had a decent first half as he burst through the Leeds defence a couple of times. Looked fatigued and ineffective during the second half and was replaced by N’Gbakoto late into the game.
Conor Washington: 7.5
The quick feet forward had the best chance of the game but was denied by custodian Rob Green early in the first half. Was replaced by Jamie Mackie with ten minutes remaining.
Matt Smith: 7
The big man up front came close to breaking the deadlock repeatedly but his headers could not find the back of the net. Was applauded by the Leeds’ fans while being replaced by Sylla.
Substitutes:
Idrissa Sylla: 6
Came in place of Smith late into the second half. Made a few quick movements but failed to provide anything spectacular.
Yeni N’Gbakoto: NA
Came in place of Wszolek. Did too little to warrant a rating.
Jamie Mackie: NA
Did too little to warrant a rating.
