A harsh sending off for Laurent Koscielny broke Arsenal’s rhythm as the Gunners fall apart after a brave and incredible first half performance. Theo Walcott’s emphatic finish handed the hosts a first-half lead but Laurent Koscielny conceded a penalty and eventually earned a red card, which seemed very harsh, as the Bayern Munich brigade strolled through, in what was an easy night for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
The Best And Worst Arsenal Players Rated In Their Embarrassing Loss To Bayern Munich
David Ospina (6/10): Had a terrible game in goal for Arsenal, especially in the second half. The Colombian was guilty for Bayern’s second goal as he tried to overplay the ball and ultimately made a mess of a clearance as Robben stroked home to give the visitors the 2:1 lead.
Hector Bellerin (6.5/10): He was great in the first half, often being the winner in the individual battle against David Alaba. His pace helped him get on to the loose balls quickly but the relentless Bayern Munich proved too much for the young fullback at the end.
Laurent Koscielny (5/10): Made a mess as his poor tackle resulted in a penalty for the German giants and also a red card for the French International although it was harsh. Prior to his sending off, he was a focal point in Arsenal’s high defensive line.
Shkodran Mustafi (5.5/10): Played a brilliant pass to free Walcott for the first goal but got completely torn apart by Bayern as soon as they changed gears.
Nacho Monreal (6/10): He was disciplined for most of the game, not letting Arjen Robben to cut inside, causing the Dutchman to get deeper to attain the ball. A decent performance from the Spanish fullback.
Granit Xhaka (6/10): Failed to cope with the tenacity of the Bayern midfielders, especially Arturo Vidal as the visitors found it easy to dominate the middle.
Aaron Ramsey (5.5/10): The Welshman was very industrious in the first half, proving to be a focal point in most of Arsenal’s attacking moments. But faded off as the game went on and offered nothing as an attacking option in the second half.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (6.5/10): Was very active even in the second half but lacked the endeavour to create something on his own. The lack of service from his teammates didn’t help his cause either.
Alexis Sanchez (6/10): Was unable to make an impact after he was rested in weekend’s Premier League clash with Liverpool. Offered nothing in Arsenal’s offensive game, as he often got outnumbered by Bayern.
Theo Walcott (7.5/10): The best Arsenal player of the night, Walcott used his sheer amount of pace to keep the Bayern backline busy throughout the game. His emphatic finish gave Gunners a deserved lead in the first half.
Olivier Giroud (6/10): Started instead of Danny Welbeck, who got ruled out just ahead of the clash. The Frenchman failed to make an impact, as his work ethic was too low. Even though he had a part to play in Arsenal’s opener but followed it up with two glaring misses.
Substitutes
Francis Coquelin (4.5/10): Featured on as a sub to prevent Bayern from causing any further damage but the midfielder failed to answer to his critics as the might Bayern scored three more goals after his arrival on the pitch.
Lucas Perez (5/10): Having just 16 touches in 27 minutes proves his ineffectiveness in the attack.
Mesut Ozil (4/10): Got a beating of Arturo Vidal as the German International could never really match the endeavour of the hard-hitting Chilean midfielder.
