In a season which has gone horribly wrong for Rangers as they have failed to mount any sort of challenge to their arch rivals, Celtic, in the Ladbrokes Premiership, Mark Warburton’s departure last month piled up their woes to what has already been a pretty miserable season. The Gers crawled their way back into the top tier of Scottish football, but haven’t delivered the way they should have, thus bringing their construction activities to an absolute standstill. However, a recent report might rejuvenate the Rangers faithful to some extent.
Apparently, Barrie McKay has given his consent to extend his stay at the Ibrox Stadium. McKay’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2018 and it was under Warburton’s regime that they had started to negotiate a new deal. But owing to the termination of the relation of Warburton with the Scottish outfit, the scenario was seemingly stalled until the winger put it back under the limelight and frankly speaking, despite the managerial post in doldrums, this could be the impetus for the Light Blues to restructure themselves and mould themselves into a formidable side once again.
The 22-year-old came through the ranks of Rangers and is very much accustomed to the way they carry out their trade. Having cemented his position in the starting line-up, McKay has been quite prolific this term, scoring 4 goals and bagging as many as 11 assists in all competitions for the Teddy Bears as a winger and no wonder why there were a lot of speculations in the January transfer window with respect to this youngster’s move to a top quality side in Europe. Despite being so young, he has garnered himself as a household name in Scotland and has accumulated huge experience for Rangers. So shouldn’t the Light Blues tie him down with a new deal soon?
On any given day, McKay can impose himself as a nightmare for the opponents’ defence with his pace and movements, barely putting a foot wrong in the game and his crosses are venomous as well. To close the gap between them and Celtic next season, he is surely one of the players who are seemingly likely to play a pivotal role in the attacking setup under a new era which should kick off.
Keeping McKay, who wears the Rangers jersey with huge pride and passion, at the Ibrox Stadium for the foreseeable future could only do good for the club in times to come and it is no rocket science to decipher this view.
